ROLLING BEACH 9" x 7" pastel I've been gearing up to instruct a workshop coordinated with the "Sorolla and America" exhibit at San Diego Museum of Art. Sorolla was known to grab anything to sketch on a daily basis and many times it was onto cardboard. So the workshop is creating seascape sketches with pastel washes onto cardboard. Above "ROLLING BEACH" is one completed example. I found the substrate suitable with enough texture to grip the pastels, as well as being a good mid-tone for an underbase.
