  A GOLDEN GLOW 6" x 6" acrylic on wood panel Private Collector Upon arrival at the Desert Dairy Farm, I was immediately given  a tour of the 5 acres. Such diversity between the mountain ridges  and the oasis! And colors that I did not envision for a desert.  Above, A Golden Glow , is a rendition of the view from the barn  leading to the town of Twentynine Palms. Below is a sample  of what I saw.  One of my goals was to punch up my color palettes, so during my stay, I painted small vignettes and experimented. Felt  I succeeded with A Golden Glow .

ZOE  pastel sketch Christmas was a kick   and so enjoyed the short visit  with my family! Did a mad dash to Albuquerque with  an extra stop on the way and on the return to visit friends. During the drive, worked away on upcoming class  projects. Amazing what one can accomplish!  But knew I needed to get some figurative poses  together, so corralled my daughter and 2  granddaughters to work. Above, Zoe , is a sample for my one-day pastel portrait  workshop to be held at the San Diego Museum of Fine  Art on Saturday,January 12th.   Wondering what she's gazing at?

So voluminous was the site that the buildings  were nearly obscured.  Transposed to the here and now . . .   breathtaking!

So lets travel back to Catalina Island. I spent a few days there April 2010 to work on art for  a  show through Tirage , with a portion of sales   benefiting Catalina Island Conservancy. You can  view one of my posts with another scene of  Avalon Town here . Catalina Island is 22 miles off the Coast of Southern California,  so boats  are the mode of transportation to get there. All dock at Avalon, which the  Town of Avalon 2 depicts, where little houses  and cottages are nestled at the base of mountains. The Donut War is back . . .  okey, just 2 days a week  and who ever heard of designated days in a war? Us silly girls, that's who. A heavy layer of dark colors cloaked the mountain and at first glance, quite ominous.  And with a second glance, behold bright orange  splashes that snaked throughout the sky. So an orange good-night to one and all!

BLUE CLOUDS * 25"h X 18"w pastel * Courtesy of Tirage Gallery Blue Clouds is a typical scene throughout  New Mexico, with clouds bursting in the  sunny skies. But with dismay I have been  reading about the fires racing throughout  southern Arizona and now the smoke has  spread to Albuquerque.  My heart goes out to all, with hopes  that all are safe.
