SUSAN'S . . . PLAYING AGAIN!

Madrid is on the Turquoise Trail leading on Albuquerque's eastern side of the Sandia  Mountains to Santa Fe. Quite scenic with a  cruise through some old mining towns.  So two months ago Jezebel Gallery begun carrying my art, with focus on my skies and animals. Sketch of BLAST 6" x 6" pastel A new year and analyzing a new direction . . .    For so long I've been creating my little skies, but now  am attempting to push it along after reflecting on my  body of art. As one can tell, I love color!  And who doesn't if one plays with pastels?  But I notice I have a constant palette of bold and contrasting  colors, that typically are blue in hue with an occasional  red as above. So now it's time to take a step in an opposite direction.  So bear with me please, and let's see where this all goes.

A TRIO OF SKIES Preparing for an exhibit opening this Friday, which is always a huge endeavor . . .   fun, but a lot work. So that's where I am right now with my elbows  up to a pile of frames and so looking forward to the party!  Above are 3 of the mini skies that will grace one wall. 

RAYS OF THE MORNING 18"h x 14" w pastel Away passed the black night . . . with hours burning, it went unnoticed. Time slips and slides, rushing by in a whoosh. Drained of energy. Suddenly glancing upwards, was rewarded  with a golden view.  Revitalized!

detail of a new pastel sky Pressures  from left  and right pulling . . .   squeezing . . .  suffocating. Hiding  in the clouds, to turn a back  on everyday  life.  So you say  "what???"  And I say, "oh no! tax time!"

Standing tall I inhaled deeply the air's fresh scent. So alive. 

MIST ABOVE 2 RIDGES 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" pastel I peered down the chasm as I stood atop the ridge so tall. Glancing laterally, I spotted a second uninhabited ridge. Yet within minutes the misty clouds dropped from the blue sky. Was my vision a dream?

STORM'S COMING pastel - 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" 8" square white matte, petite gold leaf frame SOLD- PRIVATE COLLECTOR A storm arose quickly one day while I was painting at the Petrified Forest National Park. It was quite strange for one minute the sun was blasting down and the next, black clouds were rolling above my head. It was a mad dash to pick up my easel, pastels and small stool. The shrubs on the horizon darkened similar to a sunset, yet the sky was still a bright blue.

After stumbling over my feet, while daydreaming and staring into the skies, I came to the conclusion of a needed reprieve. So figured it's time for a snack, and what better than an apple?
