MEXICAN DELIGHT 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" pastel 8" square archival white matte, glass + gold leaf frame $150 + $15 insured priority shipping It is hard to believe, but I'm really not into the  sweet icing - even though I have had great fun eating my props lately. And of course, there's the flinging of frosting across the nation  at the Contessa !   Honestly, I must say that my downfall are huge  donuts, but decided the need to put this Mexican sweet  next on my list. This luscious pastry was from the  Golden Crown Panaderia , famed for their turkey bread sculpture. Something to consider for Thanksgiving!  

GOLDEN CROWN PANADERIA When in Albuquerque last month I discovered the quaintest  panaderia with so much charm! Golden Crown borders along  Old Town and is known for their turkey bread sculpture - no lie! They make a loaf of bread shaped as a turkey. Plus they make wonderful pastries, such as the ones pictured above.  Check out my rendition in the following post (had to  take a break to eat one of these before painting!). 

PASTRIES TO DIE FOR.... Anyway, that is the word on the street of Gold Street Caffe 's pastries. Think I will be shell-shocked since I have been painting huge, gooey, Mexican donuts. Hope I don't eat them all before I complete the pastels. So look for me (on the sidewalk) in front of Patrician Design on Saturday, September 25th from 9 am to 3 pm. I'm sure I can scarf down plenty in 6 hours!

(Ouch... I felt that.) So I'm flinging what I know best - a chocolate glazed donut.  Yummy.... Take that Kelley!

Kelley is up to her eyeballs with an open studio this weekend so requested a truce with our ongoing Donut War . And imagine, after posting a delectable, wonderful jelly donut !  Ouch...... felt that one in the gut Kelley!  Well it was difficult to stand back but this is a lovely, yummy war, so recouping my energy with all my sweets (see?).  Think this sugar will fortify me for the next stage of the battle?  Stay tuned.....

And thought we were in a truce?  (For the few of you out there that may not know, Kelley MacDonald and myself are in a middle of a donut war and times are hard - plus, ooey, gooey and sticky:)  So BAM , BAM , BAM , BAM + BAM Kelley with 5 donuts - sprinkles, sugar, glazed, chocolate and glazed - of sweet, little, sugary treats!

Well I found a jelly donut with all the sweetness sitting pretty on top of the chocolate. Thank you Panchitas! Darn (* # ! *), now Kelley is onto Boston Creams!

Nothing is flying for we're eating the props,  so I'm happy to report that noone is getting hurt.  But oh.... it's a cupcake!  Sorry Kelley, but Panchita's donuts are so huge  that I can hardly walk anymore.  (Nothing like a donut from the 'hood!)  So this petite divine cupcake is from Heavenly Desserts and was a tart lime cupcake  with dips, folds, and swirls of frosting  that just melted in the mouth.
