SUSAN'S . . . PLAYING AGAIN!

GATEWAY 6" x 6" acrylic on wood panel Private Collector Silence . . . returned. Many know that I returned nearly 3 weeks ago from an art  residency at the Desert Dairy Farm in Twentynine Palms, CA.  It has been a moving experience, plus the knowledge I gleamed  from the coordinated Kickstarter project was invaluable. Since  my time was consumed with the project, I was silent.  And now is the time for me to write this experience. Above, GATEWAY , is an acrylic of the entryway to the Farm, so felt it was fitting for the start of my journey. The viewer is actually  looking outward from the Farm's entrance and this is a scene  during a high-wind storm, which prevailed for 2 1/2 days.  All background scenery was obscured resulting in an eery effect.

A heavy layer of dark colors cloaked the mountain and at first glance, quite ominous.  And with a second glance, behold bright orange  splashes that snaked throughout the sky. So an orange good-night to one and all!

REACHING COAST-TO-COAST Blogging has really enlightened and broaden my life. I have  met a while back Kristeena Crabb, a mixed media collage artist  who lives in Delaware. Isn't it amazing how far and wide  one can reach without packing a suitcase?  On an added note, Kristeena featured my little morsel (center),   Drizzles on her blog. WHIPPED + STICKY PEANUT BUTTER 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" pastel 8" square archival white matte, glass + gold leaf frame SOLD - PRIVATE COLLECTOR Even though the Contessa  (she has her head in the  skies  for  now) and myself are back in a  Cold War,  I had  to get  back  into flinging of frosting for  a  very  good reason.  No,  not to  eat.... but to celebrate  tomorrow's event. I'm the  entertainment  at a Wine, Potluck + Art  Party   hosted  by my friend, Cathy.  We coordinated a successful  one  last  year  and was  asked  to return. So tomorrow I'm  bringing  the  dessert and you  guessed it - cupcakes!  But  we're going  to  paint them first. Such fun!    Oh, this cupcake was from Cupcakeology in  Albuquerque - peanut butter! Isn't the tiny slice  of pie on top the cupcake amazing?

COLORFUL JOURNEY 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" pastel Rippling and falling, the colors cascaded downward.  And a periodic bright flash amongst the subdued  palette illuminated the evening sky. So many colors, so many layers... one could easily get lost within.

And of course, there's the flinging of frosting across the nation  at the Contessa !   Honestly, I must say that my downfall are huge  donuts, but decided the need to put this Mexican sweet  next on my list. This luscious pastry was from the  Golden Crown Panaderia , famed for their turkey bread sculpture. Something to consider for Thanksgiving!

When I was in Albuquerque last week, I discovered  the best little shop called Cupcakeology which has little  morsels to die for. Sigh....  So I thought (there I go once again!)... Kelley,  you better watch out!  And now we're flinging frosting  back + forth with cupcakes.  But the Cupcake Contessa is a wonderful adversary  who really hits below the belt. Ouch!.... Oh, oh....  the Donut War is returning! Everyone thought their lives had returned to normalcy and started to  shake off those extra donut pounds (you know... war is hell).  And now.... the Jelly Queen , Kelley MacDonald strikes back! Ouch!  (forgive me, but I had to create a donut fast here...) Stay tuned to Monday for the frosting will be flying Kelley....
