5 GOLDEN 25"h x 18"w pastel Framing, inventorying, labeling, packing + gearing up  to deliver art. Most do not realize the process in  preparing artwork for an exhibit. So much more than  just creating a piece.  It's all a labor of love! 5 GOLDEN is one of the many pieces included within my solo show, Subtle Nuances: Pastel Paintings by  Susan E Roden, at Oasis / Albuquerque. I am so fortunate to be starting off the new year  with a solo show!  Oasis of Albuquerque is exhibiting a new collection  of adobes, landscapes and sunflower pastels. FLORALS ON WOOD 10"x10" pastel / wash on cradled wood panel Just returned from California for the closing  of Tirage Art. Sad . ..  sad . . . sad. Now working on imagery for an upcoming class  at OASIS of Albuquerque. This class will be held  November 12th and 14th.  FLORALS ON WOOD is a sample illustrating the  use of base washes onto a wooden substrate. Looser,  sketchy, and a visual blended appearance. 

SUNS + SHADOWS    SHADOWED POSEYS 18" x 12" pastel                 12" x 9" pastel This is the final week to see my two still lifes in the Pastel  Society of New Mexico 26th Annual Pastel Painting  Exhibition.  The exhibit is at Sorrel Sky Gallery,  125 W. Palace Ave, Santa Fe, New Mexico. A wonderful and colorful exhibit that I'm honored  to be included!

There is nothing as lovely as drawing flowers and today I hear sunflowers are the subject matter. I'm aways amazed at the creativity of the participants, which inspires me greatly with my own work. PURPLE SHADOWS YELLOW SUNS 8" x 8" pastel PRIVATE COLLECTION Skipping to a still life that I started last night and finished today. Even though it's a bit moody -which certainly  matches how I have been feeling - love the shadows!   It was the most enjoyable evening with friends, music and art!  Love our intimate Tuesday get-togethers which always makes my spirits soar.

With such a rich and deep color the onion looks so peaceful as it nestles amongst the folds of the blue cloth. And who out there doesn't like sunflowers? Throw a couple of apples in the mix and now we're talking.
