Sketch of BLAST - 6" x 6" sky pastel by Susan Roden

Sketch of BLAST 6" x 6" pastel A new year and analyzing a new direction . . .    For so long I've been creating my little skies, but now  am attempting to push it along after reflecting on my  body of art. As one can tell, I love color!  And who doesn't if one plays with pastels?  But I notice I have a constant palette of bold and contrasting  colors, that typically are blue in hue with an occasional  red as above. So now it's time to take a step in an opposite direction.  So bear with me please, and let's see where this all goes.

AN ESCAPE TO A NEW MEXICO DAY

PINK DOOR 4"h x 6"w With the sun out and the sky bright in San Diego, I can not help but reminisce a bit of New Mexico. I had lived there prior to moving to San Diego and my two children still reside (okey, they aren't kids any longer, but I still think of them in those terms!). The skies are so blue and seems to travel upwards forever. Makes me feel so small, yet full of life. One of my favorite places to visit was the Taos Pueblo. I would wander around, stare at the colors and loose the time of day. The Pueblo is such an enrichment of colors, culture, landscape and food.

SNAKE IN THE SKY

Have you ever noticed that clouds have a life of their own? They twist, fluff and puff. And so many times they take on shapes that resemble objects or things. Today I worked on a sky with the chain of clouds twisted and slinky, with the resemblance of the head and body of a snake. So apropos for clouds too, for they move so quick. Try catching one! As soon as the images are blocked in and I look up - oops! - the formation has changed. Tricky business we live in. SNAKE IN THE SKY 4 1/2" X 4 1/2" matted and 8" square gold leaf frame with glass $150.00 plus tax, with $15.00 for shipping and insurance

EXPLODING

SOLD 4 1/2" X 4 1/2" pastel, archival white matt, glass and 8" square petit scrolled, gold leaf frame The movements of clouds seem to travel at the speed of light and then appear to explode through the skies. And then I have such a difficult time paying attention on where I'm walking, for concentrating so hard on the movement. I've really made quite a spectacle of myself by falling, which tends to be embarrassing too. But what a show (I guess you could say that of both -me and the skies)!
