CLOWN KITTY - pastel on wood by Susan Roden

CLOWN KITTY (Gordon) 5" x 5" pastel on wood 6" square white frame and glass Private Collector A week ago Saturday was my time to hang on a sidewalk  at Patrician Design and paint kitties and pooches.  That was a trip! Fortunately it was a sunny, nice day with many people strolling  bye. I got to paint Tater and his Mom brought Tater along.   So I juggled treats, pet the pooch and painted away. Such a happy  dog! And I think Tater had enough treats to last him a week! I painted Clown Kitty (Gordon) before the event, so didn't  have to juggle a kitty. But Gordon really was wearing a clown  collar in the photo, so I didn't take an artistic license and create  it. Wish I would have thought of it though, for so cute!   And if you're in the market for a pet portrait, hop right down to Patrician Design in ABQ for there's one more week to this event.

PURPLE YORKIE - 12" x 9" pet pastel sketch by Susan Roden

PURPLE YORKIE 12" x 9" pastel on paper 16" x 13" white mat * *no glass nor frame $145 + $20 insured shipping Perky and lively little Yorkie! Been so consumed with teaching two classes at UCSD Extension  this summer. The little Yorkie is an example for my pastel class to illustrate the use of lines and texture onto black paper. The students always stimulate my own creativity.

JACK-14" x 11" pastel dog portrait by Susan Roden

JACK 14" x 11" pastel This is the second piece that I created for Saving Slim's  Foundation's Fundraiser. Unfortunately I never met  Jack  before his death,  but hope someone sees the beauty and purchases the painting. All proceeds will go to the Saving Slim  Foundation , a non-profit that rescues pit bulls. I do have to say that all the photo sources I viewed,  could detect the abuse and hurt in the dogs eyes. Sad . . .

ADDY - 12 x 9 acrylic

ADDY 12"h x 9"w acrylic + grease pencil cradled wooden panel SOLD / Private Collector It seems lately that I have just been creating pastels.  And I need some extra thrills . . . so now it's time to get-down-and-play! I was fortunate to be invited in creating portraits  of dogs for a shelter awhile back. The program  was to increase adoptions of older dogs, whom always seem to be overlooked. Addy was one and  am happy to report she was adopted to a loving  family, as well as many others. I found it a nice change to play with acrylics. As for the elements, I used a primitive background  to depict Addy's playfulness and a moon to symbolize her age.  A day of play!
