ZOE - A PASTEL PORTRAIT

Christmas was a kick and so enjoyed the short visit 
with my family! Did a mad dash to Albuquerque with 
an extra stop on the way and on the return to visit friends.

During the drive, worked away on upcoming class 
projects. Amazing what one can accomplish! 
But knew I needed to get some figurative poses 
together, so corralled my daughter and 2 
granddaughters to work.

Above, Zoe, is a sample for my one-day pastel portrait 
workshop to be held at the San Diego Museum of Fine 
Art on Saturday,January 12th.

    Nice work, Susan. Do you find that keeping it soft and avoiding heavy lines helps define the person better? I like the rainbow of color you put into everything you do. Gail

    Funny, I never thought my pastels were "soft", especially since I do not blend. You're right, in that I don't use heavy lines, with an application of pastels in planes + excessive layering. Right or wrong, I think it's all subjective to preference.

    Looks wonderful! I wish I could attend a workshop. I would love to learn how you tie the colors together throughout your pieces. They are not just portraits, they have composition and rhythm to the way they fill the canvas....

SUMMER PASTEL CLASSES!
