BADLANDS SKETCH

BADLANDS SKETCH
12" x 9" pastel on board
The heat enveloping the nation brings back memories of
my stay at the Petrified Forest National Park of Arizona.

As mentioned in earlier postings, I was awarded

an Artist-in-Residence at the Forest in 2009.

The two-week life experience was exhilarating

and challenging.

My previous post, A PAINTED SUMMERis a view of the

Petrified Forest National Park's Badlands as I hiked down
onto the desert floor. Above, BADLANDS SKETCH was
created at the highest point as seen from the Visitors
Center, Painted Desert Inn.

And below is a picture of me working

on my Badlands sketch.

  1. This is an awesome photo of the artist at work! Who took that for you? I love how your style comes through in both the badlands sketch and the donut! Very nice work! I learn a lot about colors and reflections from looking at your paintings.

  2. Thank you Katherine. The other Artist-in-Residence, Constance Baltuk Hartle, took the photo. After the 2- weeks opportunity we had a Kodak moment to capture our experience.
And especially thanks for the referral on color and reflections!

Slinging going on from the East Coast to the West Coast . . .   what a sticky mess! Sure Kelley MacDonald will be slamming me with a jelly donut . . .  or two or three stacked oh, so high!  But wait . . . also Mary Sheehan Winn has jumped into  this ruckus . . .  and shown her sportsmanship but tossing little  munchkins into the ring last week.  What's a gal to do?  I say sit back and catch a couple of these tasty morsels flying bye. Yum!
